While the two singles sound like properly produced songs, the rest sound like demos. All the other songs merge into one, where he is just constantly talking fast, like Elliott from Scrubs, about nothing in particular, again like Elliott from Scrubs. Both tracks are catchy, and memorable, but sadly the rest of the album doesn’t quite live up to their quality. The two stand-out tracks from Kings & Queens are Chaka Demus and Sticks & Stones, so it’s probably unsurprising he chose them as his singles. Unfortunately, for Jamie, his lyrical prowess doesn’t quite live up to that of Alex Turner from the Arctic Monekys, and he’s way off Billy Bragg. He’s clearly all about the lyrics, which like the Arctic Monekys, centre around life and all its hardships, the difficulties of growing up on council estates and the characters life throws at us. Wimbledon native Jamie Treays has been described as a “one man Arctic Monkey” and “like the bastard lovechild of Billy Bragg and Mike Skinner doing his best Joe Strummer impression”. I won’t divulge my positioning on the Mr T objectiveness for the sake of a balanced review, so I’ll try to cut the jibba jabba and get straight to the chase. ![]() Fans will say this is a good thing because of his undoubted talent, non-fans will moan about a lack of diversity. His latest offering, Kings & Queens, comes two years after his critically acclaimed 2007 debut Panic Prevention, and is much of a muchness. There isn’t really an in-between.įans of Jamie T regularly tell me how amazing he is, the Jason Mraz of Britain has been mentioned numerous times, but people who don’t like him moan to me about how average he is, like a teenager in his bedroom, rapping badly over default Garage Band loops. Jamie T seems to fall into a category co-inhabited by bands like Muse where fans love them with the passion of a thousand fires, and non-fans really don’t like them. ![]()
